Joel Osteen or Jesus?

Hey, Gotta Dollar?

If Roman Empiresque persecution was knocking on the arena doors of Lakewood Theater, 100% of the members would say,” Jesus who?” and say they’re just there for some inspirational teaching. Gentle congenial Joel is smoking a bowl if he thinks what he is doing pleases God. They appropriately chose theater like seats so the attenders can sit back, relax and enjoy the theatrical, dramatic, and flashy show. He wants us to find the champion in ourselves. LOL, how about we accept the Gift and let Jesus Christ inside of us? If I want to be a champion I’ll go to the gym.

I am on this soap box because I watched his interview on 60 Minutes this week, and BTW, Byron Pitts asked some hard-hitting questions. I’m going to keep an eye on his segments, I like what I see so far. Anyway, Joel says he wants to enlighten the masses about all the good things about God and that everything will be alright, totally ignoring the meat of the Message.

Unholy Joel has squandered his responsibility as a church leader. He professes to be a part of Jesus’ church but what he preaches is the doctrine of devils. He claims he’s making a difficult message simple, like the general population has no ability to do so themselves. While in truth he convoluted a very simple Message that even a child can understand. His message is not even in the same zip code as what Scripture teaches. Plain and simple, he is nothing more than a motivational speaker raking in millions not for His Commission, but his commission. Cajole Joel operates under the guise as a preacher. Is it to avoid taxes? Is it a thirst for power and prestige? Only he and God know his true motives, but I can guarantee it isn’t to cultivate Christians.

To see an example of a true Christian leader, go no further than Dr. John MacArthur ( who preaches the whole Book and not just the fluff. If you go across the pond and back a hundred years, Charles Spurgeon is another good example ( Christ didn’t humbly descend from Heaven to Man’s level and endure the vicious and brutal torture and crucifixion administered by mere mortal Man so that Joel could cajole millions into believing there is no obligation to follow Jesus’ teaching. Joel says to just think happy thoughts and everything will turn out okay. Jesus was hated, not loved, and said the same would happen to His followers. If you claim to be a follower of Christ but cuddle with the carnal world, then you’re fooling yourself for whatever reason and you’re a christian by Man’s false definition alone. That is, basically you’re a good person and believe there is a God and God is a softy who will let you in based upon your merits.

Hate It, don’t believe It, twist It, whatever you want to do to It; but nothing changes It. Just like the wind, you can say it doesn’t exist because you can’t see it, but that doesn’t change the fact that the wind is very real and on the move. Every knee will bow one day and each of us will profess,” Jesus is Lord.” Will your knee bend voluntarily or be forced? Will your lips utter He is Lord willingly or by command. Are you going to follow Joel or Jesus?

For a shining example of what kind of people they are outside the Lakewood Theater, check out this story…

A good piece on this false pastor…

  2. Once again, Joel Osteen’s utter failure to uphold Christian truth in an age of apostacy only further supports what is all too clear about his teaching: it is spiritually bankrupt.

Here is a link to articles our ministry has created on Osteen’s heretical compromise that is anointed as “Christianity” today.

  3. I believe you will agree each and everyone of us has a message, a moment of God within us, that allows for another to appreciate the enormous power of God’s presence. I also believe you will agree the dynamics behind how that message “of God” is communicated to our hearts is quite random and utterly unpredictable. For example, you watch a TV news story that helps you to appreciate the value of your own life. This moment of recognizing (knowing again) of how significant you are IS a message of God.

In all fairness to Mr Osteen, he has clearly expressed the very simply reasoning behind his approach to his ministry. He presumes those in attendance, on TV or in his audience, have the same capacity for learning and discovering God in their lives as you or I. And, it would seem he feels strongly his calling is to affirm the presence of God as a friend and a partner over a stranger or distant relative.

His message seems to simply say, “God is closer than you think….just turn your life around and look!

  4. Anglhugnu2, appreciate your comment, but man, I sense you’re sitting there with incense burning, crystals scattered around you and smelling flowers. Each of us do not have a message and God certainly does not live in everyone. He lives within those who accepted Christ as his/her Savior. Yes, it feels good to see a good story on TV and appreciate how good we have it compared to the sad story, but the True message is this is a fallen world and there is only One Way to reconcile ourselves with God and that is through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It isn’t found in warm and fuzzy feelings or preaching that Osteen banks on. Yes, turn around and look and see Christ’s work for us pathetic creatures. We deserve certain and eternal death in the bowels of Hell but He chose to come to our level and give us a second chance…many will seek it, but few will find the simple Truth that is found in Jesus. Anything other than Jesus is counterfeit and a one-way ticket to eternal darkness smelling your flesh burn. Vivid and graphic but true unfortunately. So Osteen is guilty of twisting the Truth and will have a lot to answer to at the Great White Throne Judgment.

  5. “Each of us do not have a message and God certainly does not live in everyone. He lives within those who accepted Christ as his/her Savior.”

While I appreciate your spiritual journey, I am moved to share with you an interesting aspect of mine.

I have come to understand, appreciate, and love the very breath I breathe to be a gift from The One (God) who loves all he created “in his own image and likeness” deeply and passionately. The very secret behind Jesus’ wealth of unconditional love was proof for you and I alone to know The Father is readily available if we but take the time to listen and pray constantly.

Whether we like it or not, God is the very definition of love. In fact, God IS love. We are the very expression of what God is…Love. God did not create you and I because he was lonely, he wanted to create you and I because he wanted to express his love.

There is literally nothing beyond that love or the life God express and provides all to have and enjoy. It is only when we THINK there is something that lay beyond God’s love do we experience the vapid wasteland nothingness provides.

It is here, in this illusion of nothingness, where war and arguement take place; every body wishing and beleiving their version or vision of Love or God to be correct. Eventually, those who choose such distractions find their Self saying, “there has got to be a better way.” At this moment, the light of God’s light pierces through the fog of lies and distortions in which we have been placing faith and BOOM we see the light of day where we can not see our shadow. We come to understand more fully we are loved and loved right now despite what we might have thought otherwise.

  7. I strongly believe that Pastor Joel Osteen is doing a
good job. His critics are people who are so glued to the
traditional ways of presenting the gospel to the people. The world is becoming fed up with the statusquo. God wants us to be creative and innovative

    • Nope. If you read the Bible in context you will find more than just Joel Osteen’s philosophy. I’ve read few great motivational books and Joel sounds like them. Bible texts mostly taken out of context to suit his idea. That is what some motivational books do, taking texts from the Bible to support their ideas. It is Biblical because the texts are from the Bible, but they were taken not in theological way. Sorry to say this but the only example I can think of this in the Bible is Satan. Satan also did the same to attack Jesus. I am not saying that Joel is Satan, no! He is not! But…he is using the same method, not just him but many… To go with the trend…that is what the devil been doing from Genesis all the way to the second coming of Christ. What the Bible really preach is to stay with the God’s principle and method. We all called to live holy…whatever that is unholy, then we should make it clear. Christianizing the secular or secularizing the church…(sorry my English is funny)…that is what devil want, it is easier to work evil things in the congregations that way. In worship, we could see this happened soon after Israel came out from Egypt, worshiping God just like the secular world, end up drinking gold. We should find the right method to worship God, not just assuming everything as ‘worship in spirit and truth’. Paul talked about the church more in most if his letters. Joel is not giving a clear gospel other than the gospel of Joel. Listening to his sermon is like forgetting about Bible’s authority in convicting sinners to repent, neglecting the power of the word to teach and council…(hope my English grammar is understandable) Hebrew 4:12-13

  8. Adam,
Tradition implies old, or something that passes in time and is replaced with progression. The Message God gave us in the Bible is as applicable today as it was 2,000 years ago. Creative and innovative? No, nothing needs to be changed, God is the same today as He was before He created us and all we have to do is follow Christ and be reconciled with the Father. What Joel does serves the god of this Earth and is leading many to a very big eternal disappointment…

  9. Well….I do believe Ash you hit the problem of this discussion of Joel Osteen finally on the head. Adam was NOT implying old at all…you are implying old. Adam was actually…and correctly using the word “tradition.”

Tradition is the handing down of practices and belief from one generation to another. Each and every one of those practices and beliefs change for the necessary and proper use for each according to the environment in which they are planted. There is only one constant throughout that behavior. it is all done in an effort to find God successfully.

For instance, your use of the word tradtion will never hamper you from finding God. Because regardless of your definition…GOD FINDS YOU!

Also, there was a huge tradtion of human sacrifice to the gods passed down from one generation to another. There was a huge practice of persecuting Muslims and Christians alike for the sheer content of their beleifs by other Christians and Muslims mind you.

Each of the these practices and beliefs, by their very outcomes, delivered on what was thought the sacred and holy merits of their belief systems. Each felt guided by a holy spirit that lorded over the land. BUT, it became clear to each and every culture that made such practices to be true, they in fact were false. What lasted was the one thing true, a search for God. And, that search for God relied then, as it does now, (like it or not) upon our willingness to do so with the genuine and purposeful God given gift to do so within you and I. The very passion you display each and everyday (whether you know it or not…or recognize it or not) morphs into a better and closer understanding of what it real, what is honest, what is good about The One (God) in you.

It’s what makes you so gosh darn lovable!

  10. Off the mark Anglhugnu2, human sacrifices? You use that as an example as if it was condoned by God. Negative Ghostrider. His message has been the same for thousands of years and if these human sacrificing fools felt led by the Holy Spirit it wasn’t The Holy Spirit, it was the ruler of air guiding them in their warped view. God laid it all out plain and clear and just because some whack jobs twisted the Truth and used it to their own benefit does not discredit the authenticity of God’s message. God is good, God is just, God is holy and never changes…Man is the one jacking it all up by Satan’s influence. Joel is a tool of the enemy and leading thousands to a dismal disappointment.

  11. “God is good, God is just, God is holy and never changes…Man is the one jacking it all up by Satan’s influence…”

Well…Ash since God is just (and he is)…and God is holy ( and he is)….and, God never changes (and that is true) why worry about a force or power that pales in the face of such omnipotence. From what you say…you can’t possibly be worried God will never be heard in the hearts of men…Or do you really believe men truly have the power to stop hearing God and screw up what beauty God has created in all….If you do…that would run contrary to your belief of an all-powerful creator….and that, we both know is not what you believe.

To make a long story short….quite worrying about Joel Osteen and start listening to the active living love of God within you.

Love to live the life you’ve been gifted by a God that loves you always.

  12. Just to let you know, my comment was not the one above about tradition. My comment simply stated “enjoyed your post!”

I got a little confused by reading through this thread a moment ago; then I realized what happened. The “traditional” comment above says it came from a ‘Aigbokhan John.’

Well I think I cleared up my confusion. Just wanted to let you know.

Feel free to check out my site:

There is also a Joel Osteen post on there from me.
